Friday Creative Sessions
Begining on Friday the 12th of September, we would love to welcome anyone aged 60+ to our open performance skills workshops, at our home at Yorkshire Dance, 3 St Peter’s Square, Leeds LS9 8AH.
These workshops run from 11am-1pm & 2pm-4pm every Friday. Term dates Friday 12 September – Friday 5 December 2025 (this will be an informal sharing/performance). Come along for the whole day or just for a couple of hours. This term we are offering all sessions on a ‘pay what you feel’ basis – so if you would like to donate/contribute this is now an option.
This term we’ve got three wonderful workshops and 3 inspiring artists to work with:
Telling Tales On Yourself –Join Leeds-based poet Antony Dunn for a series of creative writing workshops, exploring unusual ways to tell our own stories through poetry. Through a range of games, conversations and reading and writing exercises, you’ll create a collection of new poems and pieces of short prose, from your own unique perspective and drawing on the group’s collective wisdom and experience.
The workshops are fun, informal and friendly, and you don’t have to consider yourself a poet to take part – no previous experience is needed, but this series is designed for people with any level of writing experience.
11am-1pm – every other Friday. Friday 12 & 26 Sept, 10 & 24 Oct and 7 & 21 Nov.
Music & Singing – Musician Nicky Bray will lead fun and relaxed singing sessions exploring different themes & ideas. We will share the joy of music in a variety of ways: singing together, being creative and expressing yourself through music- no prior experience needed. The sessions will be flexible, responding to your musical interests, with opportunities to explore lyrics and song writing in a safe, non-judgemental and friendly space
11am-1pm – every other Friday. Friday 19 Sept, 3rd, 17 & 31 Oct and 14& 29 Nov.
Dance – Join dance artist Tanya Richam-Odoi who will inspire you to feel more confident dancing and moving. The workshops will be a space for you to be creative, explore new ways of moving, tell stories with your body, and try out exciting choreographic ideas. No experience needed – just bring your curiosity and a willingness to play. For this project Tanya will explore the heart, the stories they hold, our connection to our hearts, each other and the world.
