The Promise of a Garden will be made up of flowers contributed by the people of Leeds.

The 5000 Flowers Project is an invitation to create a flower for the beautiful garden we are making this summer – a garden that will bloom and grow with the individuality and imagination of each unique flower created.

You may love working with wool or scraps of material and intricate sewing,  with glitter or sequins. You might be inspired by paint and paper, coloured tissue paper or papier-mâché – we invite you to imagine the flower you will delight in creating, the flower you want to see this summer, a flower you can share with others in our magical garden.

Your flower might be real, a gift from your garden to ours, or it might be made of fabric, paper, steel or light or be a photograph of your favourite bloom. There might be knitting, ceramics and embroidery alongside pots of bulbs and roses: Our Garden will combine the art of nature with the art of human beings.

If you would like to contribute a flower, but feel unsure of how to go about it, there will be people to help you and advise you.

Each flower we gather will be photographed and acknowledged. You might like to write a dedication on your flower. That would be a wonderful thing to do.

Everybody can get involved – In community venues, schools, colleges, day centres, care homes, neighbourhood networks, clubs or at home

The Promise of a Garden at Leeds Playhouse is a celebration of our green-fingered and creative city – a sharing of what nature has meant to us over this hard year and of what we mean to each other too.
